John 13:1-17

Jesus the Servant

• His goal: love them to the end (John 13:1)
• His security: He knew where He had been, He knew what was available to Him, and He knew where He was going (John 13:3)
• His role: servant, not subservient (John 13:12)
• His command: follow My example by doing what I have done (John 13:13-17)

Servant of Jesus

• Who: everyone around us is a prospect for our service
  • The ignorant (John 13:6-7)
  • The pround (John 13:8)
  • The overreacted (John 13:9)
  • The traitor (John 13:10-12)
• Why: when we serve others, we serve Him
• What: willingness to sacrifice in love for their good
• How: in the strength that God supplies

Serving Shapes Us

• Sets us firmly in the story God is telling through our lives
• Can cultivate humility in us
• Pushes us to think of others and their needs
