How to be a Political Christian
June 23, 2024 Preacher: Trent Henderson Series: 1 & 2 Peter Summer Study
Scripture: 1 Peter 2:13–17
1 Pet 2:13
Remember who is ACTUALLY in charge
- Our submission reflects our trust in the Lord, not our trust in the government
- The bigger your view of God, the less you stress (especially in an election year)
1 Pet 2:14
Recognize the God-given role of government
- Justice in Society
- Rewarding good
- Punishing evil
- Our political process allows for debate on good and evil and the best way to deal with both
- There are significant warnings and catastrophic consequences for those who invert or subvert
- Psalm 94:20-23
- Prov 17:15
1 Pet 2:15-17
Respond as believers who think clearly
- Response: flee and do not participate
- Response: fight by using worldly means to accomplish godly ends
- Response: faith expressed in prayer, participation, and perseverance
Questions to consider:
- Do I allow for disagreement?
- Do I allow for humility (in myself or others)?
- Do I approach with kindness?
- Do I act consistently?
