Nature of False Teachers
- Empty - hope without fulfillment
- Immoral - ethics do not conform to the New Testament
- Two main areas: sexual immorality and greed (2 Pet 2:2-3)
- Apostate - in and around but never of the faith
Nature of False Teaching
- Allows and promotes immorality
- Targets new believers
- Often loud and attention-seeking
Pastoral Notes
- Watch your spiritual inputs and influences
- If you walk in darkness, you're more likely to be deceived
- Denying or diluting plain ethical standards are huge red flags
- Consistent requests for money are flashing yellow lights
