Job

September 22, 2024 Preacher: Trent Henderson Series: Encounters with God

Scripture: Job 1:2– 2:10, Job 22:2–11, Job 42:1–6

Job 1:2-19

Majesty

  • Defined: "unrivaled in might"
    • grandeur and glory + power and authority
  • Majesty in the mundane (Job 1:2-5)
  • Majesty amid tragedy (Job 1:13-19)
    • Is God good? (Job 1:9-10)
    • Is God powerful? (Job 1:11-12)
  • Majesty over spiritual forces (Job 2:3-6)

Trust His Sufficiency

  • In tragedy (Job 1:20-22)
  • In abandonment (Job 2:9-10)
  • In accusation (Job 22:1-11)
  • In silence

Job ultimately reorients around an even greater encounter of majesty (Job 42:1-6)

Final Question

  • Can God really be all that majestic if He lets an innocent man suffer?
    • There is only ONE innocent sufferer
    • He restores not with what was but something more (the foretaste of resurrection)
