Advancement: joy despite circumstances

• Joy in and not for his circumstance
• Joy that God uses these circumstances in ways we do not foresee
• Joy that God has begun and will complete the work (despite the circumstances)

Advancement: joy from the Gospel's breadth and depth

• Joy that the Gospel is getting through unopened doors (v. 13)
• Joy that the Gospel is going deeper into believers (v. 14)

Advancement: joy that the Gospel is preached

• Envy and Rivalry camp (v. 15, 17)
• Goodwill camp (v. 15-16)
  • They knew what was at stake: eternal fates, glory of God, joy of souls
