The Song of Jesus the Messiah

February 23, 2025 Preacher: Trent Henderson Series: Philippians

Scripture: Philippians 2:5–11

Phil 2:5-11

He is Divine in Nature

  • The issue has never been if Jesus is a good teacher, ethicist, leader, etc.
  • "Jesus is Lord" vs. "Ceasar is lord"
  • He is worthy of our allegiance

He is Equal with God

  • Points to Trinity - co-equal, co-eternal, co-existent
  • Jesus is always God and all God
  • He is worthy of our worship

He is the Self-Giving God

  • He laid aside His advantage
  • He set aside His position for a limited time and specific purpose
  • He was sent to accomplish an authorized mission
  • He is worthy of our imitation

He is Savior

  • He became human to save humans
    • "That which is not assumed cannot be saved" - Gregory of Nazianzus
  • He perfectly lived and sacrificially died
  • He is worthy of our trust

He is Exalted

  • He has His glory back
  • He has greater (not more) glory as our Savior
  • He has an unforgettable name
  • He has the homage of submission
  • He has the reverence of praise
  • He is worthy of our obedience
