Phil 2:5-11
He is Divine in Nature
- The issue has never been if Jesus is a good teacher, ethicist, leader, etc.
- "Jesus is Lord" vs. "Ceasar is lord"
- He is worthy of our allegiance
He is Equal with God
- Points to Trinity - co-equal, co-eternal, co-existent
- Jesus is always God and all God
- He is worthy of our worship
He is the Self-Giving God
- He laid aside His advantage
- He set aside His position for a limited time and specific purpose
- He was sent to accomplish an authorized mission
- He is worthy of our imitation
He is Savior
- He became human to save humans
- "That which is not assumed cannot be saved" - Gregory of Nazianzus
- He perfectly lived and sacrificially died
- He is worthy of our trust
He is Exalted
- He has His glory back
- He has greater (not more) glory as our Savior
- He has an unforgettable name
- He has the homage of submission
- He has the reverence of praise
- He is worthy of our obedience
