August 17, 2025 Preacher: Trent Henderson Series: Paraclete
Scripture: Galatians 5:16–24
Self-Control is internal dominion
- Self-discipline is an external action
- Self-control is the outcome of the Spirit's work (Ez 36:22-27)
My full humanity now fully alive
COMMIT to His Word and Work
Self-Control is in-control
- Not controlled by desire but understanding (like in marriage - 1 Cor 7:1-9)
- Not controlled by fear of man or fear of unknown (2 Tim 1:7)
- Not controlled by emotions but truth (like in our words - Matt 12:34-36)
My full humanity now fully alive
DEPEND on His activity
Self-Control is Intense in Focus
- Wrong path: manage my sin (Gal 5:19-21)
- Wrong path: hate myself
4 Root Idols (David Powlison)
- Power - longing for influence or recognition
- Control - longing to have everything go according to plan
- Comfort - longing for pleasure
- Approval - longing to be accepted or desired
My full humanity now fully alive
BELIEVE the Gospel Way (Gal 5:24)
